2. The Treasurer asked for confirmation that more than 15 members were present and Rex Baggaley, acting as Secretary for the evening confirmed this, including six members who had signed transfer forms that evening. Apologies were then received from: - Chris Ashton, Scott Churchill, Steve Graham, Derek Higgs and James Johnson-Hall.
3. Pedr Fawkes announced that he would stand down as Treasurer with immediate effect to enable the Branch to establish a new beginning with a new team. He invited Rex Baggaley to assume the chair and continue with the business of the meeting.
4.
On taking the chair Rex
Baggaley explained that the business of the EGM was to appoint new officers,
following the withdrawal of the incumbents over a period of time. We should not
concern ourselves with what had led to these circumstances, but should look
forward to the continuance of our sub branch, supported by our fellow members
in Chonburi. We should also be aware that the performance of the sub branch
over the coming months would be monitored both in our sponsoring branch and the
overseas division of RBL in
The election would now proceed, nominations would be taken from the floor and proposed and seconded. The ballot would be by show of hands, in the event of more than one candidate for any office, ballot slips would be provided.
5. Nominations were called for in order, the following received nominations: -
Chairperson: Trevor Dobson,
proposed by Barry Constantine, seconded by Russell Barnes.
Secretary: Rex Baggaley,
proposed by Richard Prouse, seconded by David Hardcastle.
Treasurer: Rob Kelly,
proposed by Russell Barnes, seconded by Bob Elkins.
There being no further candidates the nominations were declared closed.
6. Rex Baggaley suggested that, as there was just one nominee for each office that voting for all positions should be taken simultaneously, this received assent.
The show of hands was unanimous, there were no votes against and the nominees were declared duly elected to applause.
Rex Baggaley invited the new Chairman to address the meeting and Trevor Dobson took the chair. He commenced with a vote of thanks to Glenn Croston, first chairman of the sub branch who had worked tirelessly for it’s inauguration, in addition to his active involvement with his children’s foundation and his countrywide role as Welfare Officer. It was to be hoped that Glenn & Ros would continue to visit and support the sub branch in the future. Thanks were also extended to Pedr Fawkes, not only for his work within the sub branch but for his unstinting support as host of TRBL in the “Legion Room” of the Olde Bell and for his generosity.
The chairman strongly stressed that the newly constituted Chiang Mai Sub Branch had to pass the test of approval by our sponsoring branch and this would require input, not only from the new committee, but from members themselves, if we are to achieve our targets of maintaining and growing membership, improving our financial status and making a significant contribution to TRBL welfare fund. He called for volunteers to assist with the Social programme, to develop a membership drive and to co-ordinate the Poppy Appeal and Remembrance events.
With that he thanked members for their support on behalf of the newly elected committee, who planned to hold their first meeting within 7 days of their election.
7. The Secretary declared the meeting closed at 8.10pm.
