Classic Cars of Lanna fundraising Vehicular Treasure Hunt

This is to advise that Classic Cars of Lanna have undertaken to organise a fundraising Vehicular Treasure Hunt in support of TRBL.

The event will take place on Sunday, 29th September, commencing at 10 am & will be open to all 2, 3, 4 or more wheeled vehicles.

The Hunt will start from Bistro 1 in NIM City Daily and will be limited to members of TRBL and CCL.

It will involve a journey of around 25 kilometres each way and will conclude with a lunch and prize giving at a Resort Restaurant.

The organisation of this event will be undertaken by CCL who will underwrite any costs involved.

It is anticipated that a charge of 200 baht per vehicle will be made and the cost of lunch will be 300 baht per person.

For those members of RBL who do not have their own transport it is proposed to sell seats in Classic Cars at 100 baht each, this will include a return ride to NIM City The event will conclude at the resort, we expect this to be around 2.30 pm.

It is hoped that this will be featured on the CCL website in the near future,

TRBL CNX Annual General Meeting 2012

Here are two important documents relating to the upcoming third AGM of Chiang Mai Sub Branch BR3625, please take the time to read them.

The first is the convening Notice – this tells you when and where we’re going to meet and outlines the matters to be discussed at the AGM, under TRBL constitution we must give at least 21 days notice, which is why it’s coming to you now.

The second is the Registration Document, it has 3 sections. The first asks you to let us know if you plan to attend and to confirm your membership number.

Next we ask you to nominate candidates to fill the vacant positions on the committee. You may nominate yourself, it’s just a way of offering to help after all, or you may nominate another member provided you have their permission to do so. The last section is your opportunity to propose a motion or ask a question.

Here are a few words of explanation. We ask you to let us know if you’re coming so that we can indicate to the venue what catering & seating arrangements we need as well as working out if we need to hire PA equipment. If you’re not sure you can make it and don’t fill in this section then find you’re free, don’t worry, please do come along, we’ll welcome your contribution.

The Nominations area is already followed by a brief explanation of why these positions appear vacant, you will see that in two cases we need someone to step forward and in two other cases there are already members who have offered their services and now seek your approbation. If you’re happy with the job they’re doing then no need to offer a candidate to stand against them, but if you feel you’d like to have a go or know someone who would please nominate them, it’s a free and fair election!

Finally, the opportunity to propose something formally does not come around that often and I’m sure that long time members of RBL know that once the Chairman has opened the meeting no additional topics can be dealt with, the agendum having been closed by the Chairman’s opening remarks – so this is a very good chance for you to raise any issue that’s on your mind. If you table a motion or proposal or need to have something clarified then complete the form to that effect & return it, your contribution will appear amongst the agenda for the meeting, your Chairman & I are duty bound to see that it does.

Just one other proviso, you may not attend the meeting, nominate candidates or raise a topic unless you are a fully paid up member of this Sub Branch.

We are grateful to those members who turned up in force last Wednesday evening (more about that in a separate email later) and kept John & Richard busy filling in receipts, but there are still more renewals to be made.
You can call John and he will arrange to meet you, you can hand your subs to any committee member, you can join us at our Social two weeks before The AGM and also sub up on the evening before the AGM starts.

Now for the small print – paying after 9th Oct will not allow you to nominate a candidate or propose a motion, but will allow you to attend the AGM to take part in the discussion & use the discount voucher you will receive on entry, so the sooner we have your renewal the more you can enjoy it.

You will hear from me again regarding the AGM as an agendum must be issued at least 7 days prior so that everyone has an opportunity to prepare. Meanwhile you can expect a reminder in a few days time concerning our next social location and activities.

Dear RBL Member,

Whenever there is a Convening Notice for the AGM sent out there must, inevitably, follow an Agendum. So here it is!

We shall meet at 7 pm for a start at 7.30 at The Salad House, this is just past Airport Plaza and well before Immigration on the Airport Road.
The Agenda calls for a ballot to elect the 3 nominees to the committee, as there is just one candidate for each position the vote will be taken by show of hands. There is a proposer for each nominee, a second for each will be taken from the floor during the meeting.

My thanks to those that have completed the Registration Form to let us know you will be attending, this is a way of ensuring that you will receive a voucher to help cover the cost of your refreshments and beverages.
If you have not yet completed the form and wish to attend would you please indicate so to me at this email address, I will then ensure sufficient vouchers are produced.

Thank You

Gentleman’s Evening be welcomed by the Girls of The Oxide Pub

The Oxide Pub Chiang Mai

The Oxide Pub Chiang Mai

Dear member,

As I am sure you know Bob & The Barflies are out & about in Chiang Mai searching for places we might enjoy visiting whilst the search for our new home goes on.

Last Wednesday some 20 members had a pleasant evening sitting in the comfortable surroundings of the No 1 Beer Garden where we were welcomed by Freddie and his friendly staff – and, incidentally where the first poster advertising the RBL Poppy Golf Competition on 26th October was posted in a prominent position – Thanks Freddie!

During a quiet moment Bob told us of an interesting venue he had found and suggested that anyone interested could join him this coming Wednesday 12th Sept for an evening’s fun!
This has been described as a Gentleman’s Evening at which Ladies will be more than welcome and couples will be particularly welcomed by the Girls of The Oxide Pub.
Please come along and enjoy yourself on this free & easy evening.

To help you get a feel for the place just click on this video:-

If you like what you see and would like a join this outing there is a map of the location at the top of this page.
Bob and the gang will be there from shortly after 7 pm and will do their level best to hold a few tables in this very popular venue so if you’re going to be there
Get there early and soak up the atmosphere.
This is let your hair down time, just a free & easy evening out – just come along and let the good times roll!!!!!

Dear Legion Member,
First the good news
SUMMER SUN SPLASH
It was good to see members making this a family occasion with kids joining parents in the main pool as well as enjoying themselves in the splash pool. We also had some guests who expressed interest in joining the Legion, so that should help swell the ranks for the future. The weather treated us more kindly than last year and there were no power hiccups. Safe to say a grand time was had by all.
AND – we had more of everything!
More Folk – Thanks to the 70 of us there. More Entertainment -Thanks to Chas Begley and a rip roaring session of “Play Your Cards Right’. More Live Music – Thanks to Anna Gracey (Great to see you back Anna) and Rob Kelly & his guitar sing along. More Food – Thanks to The Duke’s and their piled high BBQ. More Drinks – Everything flowed from Tea & Coffee to Fine Wines until we cried enough. More Atmosphere – Thanks to Sally Ward, Gill Dobson & Bob Machin and all their other helpers as well as the Management & Staff of The Real Centre of the Universe.
MOST IMPORTANTLY – MORE FUNDRAISING – What was introduced as a quiet family evening for members & friends 3 years ago has this year raised 14, 600 baht for Legion Funds – Thank You everyone for contributing.
Now some better news
QUALIFIED CASE WORKERS
After the Branch General Meeting Derek Brook & Bert Elson stayed on for two days to get to know us a little better and Bert organised a 2 day training course for Welfare Case Workers, held in the Airport Greenery Hotel. On chatting with the candidates at the end of course it soon became apparent that this had not been a mere formality but had taken considerable effort and concentration on their part. “I didn’t realise that there would be so much to it” being a typical reaction.
We now know that all 4 of our candidates succeeded in reaching the required standards. So first much thanks from all in the Sub Branch to Bert for taking a lot of time and trouble to come to Chiang Mai and help guide our Welfare Team in this way. Then our thanks and congratulations to Tony Archer, John Burnett, Barry Williams  & Tanamon Supirom ( Jaa). Thanks to these four and our existing case workers, Trevor Dobson and Bob Machin we are now in a position to provide support to ex service personnel not only in Chiang Mai but throughout Northern Thailand – an incredible achievement in less than 3 years!
The best is saved for last
THE ROYAL BRITISH LEGION SOCIAL EVENING
This Wednesday Evening is the first of our new style Roving Committee Socials. Most, if not all, of our committee will be there and are looking forward to a chat and hearing your views. Early on the the evening we’ll be sounding you out as to whether you would like a more formal Q&A session on these occasions or if it would be better to keep it all low key – or maybe we should play it by ear, depending on the time, place occasion and topics – what do you think? Come along and tell us.
THE ACCUMULATOR
It’s always good to have a little flutter and at the same time add a few baht to the funds. We’ve all enjoyed a picking a team to two on the Football Cards, but that surely has run it’s course now and we’re planning to add variety to our Social Evenings as time goes on. This week we start the ball rolling with a game that will go on for as long as we spend looking for our new home. Our Team of attractive ladies will be circulating during the evening inviting you to buy a raffle ticket or two. You’ll need to write you name & phone number on the back of the stub and all else will be explained to you on the night – and subsequent nights.
Once again that Lotto phrase will come back to haunt & remind us all – You Have To Be In It To Win It.
Hope to see you Wednesday

Dear member,
Now – What did I forget to remind you of?
Oh Yes
We’re at THE PUB – We’re there from 7 pm onwards.
Come and meet the Legion’s most absent minded Acting Secretary………………….

The Royal British Legion @ Perns Chiang Mai 27 June 2012

The Royal British Legion Chiang Mai currently has 75 members, there are 300 members in Thailand. The mother branch is in Chonburi.

Trevor Dobson the Chairman explained  that he does not want to go around carrying a hat (begging) he would rather have interesting events and social gatherings raising money for The Royal British Legion.

The funds raised at the events are for the Welfare work in Thailand for serving & ex-serving members of the British Forces and their families regardless of their nationality. These might include Gurkha’s and Burmese nationals – anyone who has served The British Crown.

Their welfare team have already helped several people including repatriation back to the U.K.
Sally Ward organised the dinner at Perns with 29 people including 19 members, John Morgan, a guest commented on it being ‘such a fun night, good value and such nice people’.
