Kanchanaburi – ANZAC Day 2013

Dear Member,

As you may know we plan to run another trip to Kanchanaburi to commemorate ANZAC Day in April. The plan is we travel down on 24 and return 27 April, dates to be confirmed.

What I need at the moment is who would like to attend. I should point out a couple of things before you make a decision.

Chon Buri cannot make a contribution to the cost of hiring a coach, so it will cost more than last year, if I remember the cost was 1000 Baht per person so it will be around 2000 Baht per person this year, depending on the hire cost of course. One other point regarding transport last year we used a 30 seater coach.

We will also be responsible for arranging our own accommodation, the cost of accommodation last year was 800 per room per night.
A rough idea of costs will be around 4,400 Baht per person and a couple around 6,400 Baht..

If you would like to attend please let me know asp.

John Burnett

Update: 26 Feb 2013

Good Afternoon Member,

I have provisionally booked a 40 seater coach from Standard Tour, the same company as last year.
The bus will have 2 drivers and a W/C on board. The cost of the coach id 48,000 Baht and includes fuel. In order to keep the cost down we need as many members as possible to come along. As I said in my last email Bert, is not able to provide us with a subsidy so we will have to fund the entire trip ourselves, so if we can fill the coach it will cost us individually 1200 Baht per person.

I understand that some members were concerned about the lack of W/C on last years trip and elected not to go, so hopefully now we can persuade a few more members to come along.

Regarding accommodation Bert has a 6 rooms available so it will be first come first served. The hotel is the same as last year Noble Night Guest House. So those who do get a room then you’ll have to make your own arrangements.

We have left the planning of this trip a little later than last year if you would like to come along please let me know asp and those who would like to make their own arrangement I suggest you do so sooner rather than later.

John Burnett

Pattaya Bikers join Remembrance Day Services alongside British Legion

Over 40 Bikers left Pattaya this morning, after meeting in Soi Siam Country Club Road to begin their charity ride to Kantchanburi for Remembrance day

Organised By the Royal British legion in Pattaya, the “Gang” met for breakfast, amid a cluster of gleaming heavy machinery, before splitting into two groups for the ride which will take them on local roads only to Kanchanaburi, via Bangkok where they will meet others who are taking part.

The fund raising ride is a new addition to the series of events organised by the legion to raise funds for Thai and international charities, as Westerners remember the fallen from the wars.

On Sunday, the bikers will join hundreds of others who attend services in Kanchanaburi, Home of the legendary Bridge over the Kwai , held to remember those who have lost their lives through war. The Sunday ride will be alongside people from all nations and include one man who is walking the journey from the border to Kanchanaburi as a marathon to raise funds

The Service will be attended by dignitaries including the British Ambassador and possibly William Hague, along with many top representatives of the Thai Nation.

TRBL Chiang Mai in Kanchanaburi for Anzac Day 2012

Members from all over Thailand including Pattaya, Bangkok, Korat, Chiang Mai and Udon Thani made their way to Kanchanaburi on the 24 April ready for the service on 25 April, many attended the dawn service followed by the main one at 10am. After the service we headed to the lesser known war cemetery at Chungkai to hold our own small service and to lay four wreaths (the only ones laid at Chungkai).

Should anyone else join the group monies paid will go into branch general funds.

Trevor.

Update 31/Jan/2012:

Good morning,
I would like to let you all know what progress has been made regarding the up and coming Anzac day trip.
The coach has been booked, the total cost is 40,000 baht, this includes 2 drivers, insurance, toilet, a/c, reclining seats and DVD
player. I have paid the deposit 20,000 leaving the remaining 20,000 to be donated and paid for by ‘Head Office’ in Chon Buri.
As Trevor mentioned in a previous email I need to collect the money to cover the deposit, this means couples will be asked to
pay 2000 baht and those travelling alone 1000 baht.
The trip to Kanchanaburi will take about 12 hours so the operators tell me, so I suggest we leave early and we meet at their main office on
Chang Klan Rd. It is just before Chiangmai Land Village on the right coming down from the Night Bazzar. I suggest 7am, but earlier would be
better I think. We have time to decide.
For those who would like to attend the Hellfire Pass service on the morning of the 25 Apl, I’m not sure of transport arrangments, so there
may be an added cost especially if we are to use our own coach, I will need to look into this.
Regarding accommodation, we (most of us) will be staying in the Noble Night Guest House, I have asked for 11 rooms, the breakdown is:
1.    Roger and Nancy
2.    Bob and Ja
3.    Geoff and Samlee
4.    Tony and Carol
5.    Don and Nok
6.    Vic and Bob
7.    Rex
8.    John Burnett
9.    David Hardcastle
10.  Warren Preddy
11.  Salley
I spoke to Bert over the weekend and the hotel is now fully booked, as a result there can be no changing of rooms.
We will be sending Bert 11,000 baht deposit for the rooms which means I would like to collect 1000 per room, to clarify, those
who are attending as couples and those going as singles will as to pay the same amount, 1,000 baht.
The remainder is to be paid by yourselves when you check out.
For those who missed the hotel Bert has suggested the Ploy Guest House which is next door to the Noble Night, their web site is
www.ploygh.com
So in summary I need to collect 3,000 baht from both couples and 2000 baht for those travelling alone. I will be in the Old Bell tomorrow night a
nd most Wed nights.
If I can suggest that you pay 2000 / 1000, for the transport costs first, this month Feb, and the hotel deposit next month or all together I will leave it to you.
One more thing the payments are non-refundable.
Hope all this makes sense.
John

08/Mar/2012

Sally says she can organise a River Kwai railway trip if there is enough interest.
I think it would be an alternative to the Hell Fire Pass trip that is scheduled for the morning of the 26 Apl before the BBQ in the afternoon.
Of course the Hell Fire Pass trip is an opportunity to visit the pass in proper daylight, but as it will be more or less daylight after the service some may be happy with that.
If you could have a think about it and let me know and we’ll see what the general consensus is. It may possible to do both as opposed to we all do one or the other.

John
