TRBL Chiang Mai

Members Newsletter #1/2010

Dear Royal British Legion members,

TRBL in northern Thailand continues to go from strength to strength and we now have 44 members across half a dozen provinces. The vibrancy of the branch, however, does depend on members coming out to social evenings and exchanging ideas and enjoying each other’s company whenever possible. From now on, many TRBL socials will be held in the British Legion Function Room, upstairs at our home in The Olde Bell Pub on Loi Kroh Road in Chiang Mai. This is to help make new members and prospective members feel at home and encourage all members of our sub-branch to get to know each other. To assist in the process of socializing, your committee would like to tell you about a couple of events that we think will appeal to you:

This Wednesday (17th February) we’ve got a great little number to tempt you out for the evening. We’re giving away FREE drinks! There’s Leo, Singha, red wine, gin and vodka, as well as soft drinks and mixers, all free whilst stocks last. Sandwiches will be provided courtesy of The Olde Bell. Members drink for free – non-members and members’ guests for a modest 250 baht a head. Upstairs from 7pm.

Wednesday, 3rd March 2010 from 7.30pm.

TRBL members are invited to a 3-course meal for just 95 baht! “Impossible!” we hear you say! Well it’s done by members buying teams on the football cards on sale at The Olde Bell, and other fund-raising events. Meals will be served upstairs and this is your menu for the evening:

Starters - Your choice of:

Olde Bell Buffalo Wings Egg Mayonnaise Garlic Mushrooms

Main courses - Your choice of:

Pan Fried Fillet Steak, Chips and Seasonal Vegetable, Homemade Beef or Vegetable Lasagne and Chips, Homemade Shepherd’s Pie and Chips, Poached Grouper Fish fillets in Parsley Sauce with mashed potato, Broccoli and Carrots

Desserts – Your choice of:

2 Scoops of Vanilla or Chocolate Ice Cream Bread and Butter Pudding and Custard

Tickets will be on sale for this at the social evening on 17th February and thereafter any time behind the bar at The Olde Bell. Members may bring along 1 guest for an additional 95 baht and up to 2 further guests at 195 baht each. To ensure sufficient servings of each meal are prepared, we need you to book your meals in advance, by no later than Tuesday, 2 March. Tickets are not refundable and members who book meals and subsequently fail to attend the event will be asked to pay for them in full.

We hope you will agree that your committee have come up with a couple of enjoyable and economical events for you to enjoy and we hope you will be able to come to one, if not both, events.

From next Wednesday (24th) onwards, TRBL social evenings will take place upstairs every Wednesday here, with sandwiches laid on courtesy of The Olde Bell. We look forward to seeing you soon.
